Race Information

The 2023 race will be held on Saturday 9/30/23. Registration opened on 5/1.
The registration fee is $75, with a 25% discount for military veterans and first responders.

Start time: 7:00 am at end of Fox Hollow Rd in Shandaken, NY
Cutoff at Winisook Aid Station (9.5 mi): 11:00 am
Cutoff at Finish: 5:30 pm at the Parish Hall, Main St. in Phoenicia

Race Day

Parking

You can park in the town of Phoenicia behind the Phoenicia Open Market at the back of the lot, but we prefer you to park at the lot of the Phoenicia Elementary School in Phoenicia, on School Lane off of Rte 214N, right near the village. We ask that you DO NOT park overnight or on Saturday morning in the church parking lot. ONLY VOLUNTEERS WORKING AT THE FINISH ARE ALLOWED TO PARK THERE. We discourage runners from being dropped off at the start, which is at the end of Fox Hollow Rd, Shandaken, NY, 12480. If you are dropped off at the start, your driver must leave immediately.

Bus Shuttles

A bus will take all runners to the start of the race off Fox Hollow Rd. Buses will leave town and stop at the Phoenicia Elementary School lot at 5:45 am and 6:15 am.

Toilets

A couple of port a potties will be placed at the DEC lot on Fox Hollow Rd, where the bus lets you off for the start. You may also get into the Parish Hall to use the toilets there briefly before 5:30 am on race day.

Bib Pickup

You can pick up your bib and swag the night before the race, 9/29, at the Parish Hall on Main St in Phoenicia from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. OR You can pick up your bib on race morning when the bus drops you off at the start, and get your swag after the race. Your bib number will be marked with your wave number.

Waves

The terms of our permit from the NYS DEC require us to start runners in waves of 15 at five minute intervals, from fastest to slowest, although we diverge from that plan a bit. You will be assigned to a wave based on your previous race history that you will provide to us on registration (or what we can find on Ultrasignup). Please realize that this is not an exact science, and we may well put you in a wave that is inappropriate for you. The time delay for your wave will be subtracted from your overall finish time.

Drop Bags

You can have a drop bag at the Winisook Aid Station (9.5 mi). Please give us your drop bag at bib pick up, either the day before the race or when you get off the bus on race day. All drop bags should be clearly labeled with the number on your bib. Also, please make sure that your drop bag is no larger in size than a shoe box.

Finish Area

There will be post race food and refreshments at the Parish Hall. Our finish line is a great place to hang out, socialize and watch the runners finish!

AS #1: Giant Ledge: mile 7.5, water only
AS #2: Winisook: mile 9.5, full service, bathroom, drop bags
AS #3: Wittenberg: mile 17, full service
AS #4: Lane St: mile 25, water, Tailwind, Coke, chips

Required Gear

Please carry a headlamp and extra batteries, especially if you are a slower runner. You will need to carry extra fluids once you leave the Winisook and Wittenberg aid stations, since there is not a lot of water on the course, especially after you leave the Wittenberg aid station.

Littering/Leave No Trace

Will result in disqualification. Please follow Leave No Trace principles (except that you are not camping or starting fires).

Paper Cups

Please bring a bottle or your own reusable cup. We try to use as few paper cups as possible.

Crew/Spectators

There is really no need for crews in this race. Unfortunately, we cannot allow spectators or crew at the Winisook aid station due to very limited parking. For all of the other aid stations except Lane St. near the end of the race, you would need to hike in to see an athlete during the race.
